Get into the ZUNE...
by Gema Alejandra Smith
Ok, so I know I'm a Microsoft girl living in an Apple world, but even my adamantly MAC-only, Ipod-ing brother would take a second gander at this new gizmo. If you want hi-tech and snazzy, here it is.
Riddle me this:
If you take an IPod and cross it with twitter, facebook (or myspace), your radio, Netflix, and your library card (if they even make those anymore), what do you get?
The brand new ZUNE HD and its coinciding new software, thats what!
It's sleek, colorful, and even customizable (they'll even engrave it for you free of charge). The Zune HD is also touch activated (duh! How else are they going to go up against the almighty ipod?). But it's also so much more than a music player and it brings a whole new meaning to the term "Portable Media Player"! It's fully loaded with an awe-inspiring interface that allows you to play music, videos, books, movies, games, TV shows and the radio all from the palm of your hand (if you so choose). With its WiFi capabilities and buy from FM Radio option; the sky is the limit and no bit of media is out of your reach! The new Zune HD is also compatible with your at home and car entertainment systems, which leaves you with no excuse to ever be unplugged.
The HD models are available in 16 & 32GB (and there are rumors about larger capacities coming soon). The Zune Originals (which are quite evolved, ironically) are available with anywhere from 4GB to 80GB to even 120GB!! (Memory mongers like myself know how happy 120GB of entertainment media storage makes me).
On top of all that, you can share it all; it's the best of both worlds! You can setup a profile in the Zune Social section as you would on myspace or facebook, with your "Zune social online persona" you can friend other users, comment and message them, you can even send them your favorite songs or show the world who you listen to the most. Also, the updated software and site are unbelievable! You can track your favorite artists albums, songs, tour dates, and even how they are doing on the charts. Not only is their new interface incredibly efficient in connecting you with your favorite artists and fellow music lovers, its just plain fun to play with and great to look at.
Oh yes, the Zune PMPs are awesome; cheap, however, they are not. (Which is what makes them Glam Gadgets). The HD models go up to nearly $300 ( $289 just for the 32GB on the Zune site) and the Originals are in a lesser but similar price range. Never fear, friends, these fancy handheld jam-session controls are available through various retailers (my bargain hunters know what to do) but be advised, the complementary special graphics embossing and inscription engraving customization option is only available through Zune. Wherever you should happen to purchase this awesome PMP you're sure to be pretty impressed as soon as you explore its capabilities. Literally, people, if it made calls I'd have to consider becoming a one-gadget woman! (Ok, that was a total exaggeration, but I think you get it.)
A definite must buy for music obsesses like myself, available at www.zune.net and great electronic retailers near you. If you've not already conformed to mass ipodism, get into the Zune!
